Prisma meeting - Summer 2020

This summer, the Prisma group of composers & music technologists met online instead of at Ircam . The meetings took place every day from July 6 to July 9, in four different time zones: 6-8pm in Paris, Berlin & Vienna 12-2pm in Boston/Cambridge 11am-1pm in Winnipeg & Iowa City 9-11am in Los Angeles We had a great set of presentations: Hans Tutschku: Composing with Large Sound Collections Jacopo Baboni Schilingi: Le Temps de l'Écho Johannes Kretz: creative (mis)understandings Johannes Kretz: Experiences with Live-Electronics – completely on iPad and (almost) completely wireless Orjan Sandred & Julien Vincenot: Cluster Engine from PWGL into Max as part of MOZlib Orjan Sandred: Creative projects Jean-François Charles: Spectral envelopes: gaussian blur, cepstral cross-synthesis, and historical pattern recognition As per usual, the presentations touched on topics ranging from aesthetics to art & technology. This year, the Prisma meeting took place at Ircam from July 5th to 7th. Jacopo Baboni was the main organizer, as usual; Hans Tutschku showed how he uses light live electronics & spatialization in his compositions Still Air 3 for oboe, bass clarinet & electronics, and Shadow of bells for piano & electronics; Orjan Sandred presented his recent compositions, as well as new developments in his contraint programming for computer-aided composition; Johannes Kretz shared his Timbre Tunnel to morph sound in real-time; Michele Tadini gave a new version of his granular synthesis tool the T-Grain ; Invited for the first time, Stéphane Boussuge presented the computer-aided composition tool Opusmodus - to know more about it, check out this article on music radar: Composition meets programming with OpusModus ; Jean Bresson, Jérémie Garcia and Xavier Favory presented computer-aided composition tools (especially a new reactive mode in OpenMusic) and interfaces for the control ...

Prisma stands for International Pedagogy and Research on Assisted Musical Systems. This summer, this group of composers, musicians, and software developers is meeting from July 2nd to 5th at Ircam in Paris. My talk this year: the Physics of Music & Sound Last year, my talk was entitled Ableton Live for Live Electronics . I compared Ableton Live to Max 5 , highlighting what was easier to realize using one or the other piece of software, in the context of composing for classical instruments and live electronic music. I also talked about Logic Pro, since most of the "live electronic music" capabilities used by many composers are also implemented inside Logic Pro's environment. Prisma is a group of composers and researchers dedicated to International Pedagogy and Research on Assisted Musical Systems . The next Prisma event is happening in Shanghai Conservatory as part of the 2009 Shanghai International Electroacoustic Music Week. From October 16th to 26th, you can attend workshops (including hands-on instruction by the best specialists of PWGL ), a series of conferences, and concerts. Jacopo Baboni Schilingi is a composer, the founder of the Prisma group, and currently holds the position of composition professor at Montbéliard Conservatory. I am just back from Montbéliard, France, where I took part in the July 2008 Prisma Meeting. Prisma is an international group of composers and researchers founded in 2001 at the initiative of Jacopo Baboni Schilingi . Prisma stands for " International Pedagogy and Research on Assisted Musical Systems ." I joined in 2003 at the invitation of Jacopo Baboni and Hans Tutschku . The group meet regularly to exchange and build musical knowledge.
